South Central Regional Medical Center is a 285-bed public not-for-profit hospital founded in 1952, serving a six-county region in Mississippi including Covington, Jones, Jasper, Wayne, Simpson, and Smith counties. The health system employs over 2,200 staff and more than 130 physicians and providers across 28 medical specialties. SCRMC operates a Level 3 Trauma Center with 21 ICU beds, a network of 24 medical clinics, three primary care locations, two nursing and skilled nursing facilities, home health and hospice services, and a dedicated ambulance service.
The organisation holds recognition as a COVID-19 Center of Excellence from the Mississippi State Department of Health and maintains Baby-Friendly USA certification. It is expanding its medical education capacity with Internal Medicine and Family Medicine residency programmes launching in 2025-2026. A significant technology initiative is underway with Epic electronic health record implementation scheduled for January 2026, representing a substantial modernisation of the health system's digital infrastructure.
SCRMC operates as part of a broader healthcare consortium alongside Covington County Hospital, Magee General Hospital, Simpson County General Hospital, and Smith County Emergency Hospital, strengthening regional healthcare delivery and coordination across rural Mississippi communities.
