Southeast Health is a not-for-profit, community-based academic health system founded in 1957. It serves a population of approximately 460,000 residents across Southeast Alabama, Southwest Georgia, and the Florida Panhandle. The system is governed by a volunteer board, the Houston County Health Care Authority, and is a member of the Mayo Clinic Care Network.
The system's flagship, a 420-bed Medical Center, operates as a regional referral hub. It is one of four certified Comprehensive Stroke Centers in Alabama and is recognized as a Level II Trauma Center and Chest Pain Center. The facility also operates the region's only Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and its only inpatient Pediatric Unit. Additional components of the system include the Medical Group, a network of primary care and specialty clinics, and the Foundation.
A key element of its academic mission is the Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine (ACOM), the state's first osteopathic medical school, which is integrated into the health system. The system also includes the Statera Network.
