Southern Illinois Healthcare (SIH) is a not-for-profit health system serving the southernmost 16 counties of Illinois. It operates four hospitals within 58 miles of each other and runs more than 30 clinics covering 60 medical specialties. The system employs over 4,000 people alongside more than 670 employed and affiliated physicians and advanced practice providers.
SIH provides a range of services that are the only ones of their kind in the region, including a comprehensive cancer center, a Level II Trauma Center, an open heart surgery program, a birthing center, a special care nursery, and a pediatric unit. The system also operates the largest robotic surgery program in Southern Illinois and the only non-state operated inpatient behavioral health unit south of Interstate 64, the SIH Mulberry Center.
The system has provided $1.3 billion in charity care, unreimbursed care, and community benefits since 2014, reflecting its stated commitment to serving patients regardless of ability to pay. SIH maintains strategic affiliations with external institutions to deliver advanced care close to home in a region with limited healthcare options.
