Durham Children's Aid Society has been protecting children and strengthening families in Durham Region since 1905. As a legally mandated child protection organization, we provide services to children and youth under the age of 18, and their families, ensuring safety, well-being, and healthy development. We work collaboratively with parents, caregivers, and community partners to create safe environments where children can thrive. Regulated by the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services and governed by Ontario's Child, Youth and Family Services Act, 2017 (CYFSA), we are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to respond to concerns about children in need of protection.
Our organization is committed to diversity, equity, inclusion, and cultural responsiveness in all aspects of our work. We believe that keeping children safe is a community responsibility, and we connect families with community resources to address challenges such as poverty, mental health concerns, and family violence. When children cannot remain safely at home, we ensure they are placed with kin, family friends, or foster caregivers. In 2025, we launched our Strategic Plan 2025-2030, "From Insight to Action," developed collaboratively with staff, youth, families, and community partners to guide our work toward a future where every child and youth in Durham Region is safe, valued, and thriving.
