Denver Health is an academic, integrated safety-net health system founded in 1860 as City Hospital. Operating for over 160 years, it serves as Colorado's leading safety-net hospital, treating approximately one-third of Denver's population annually regardless of ability to pay.
The organisation combines clinical care with medical education and research across multiple specialties. It operates a Level I trauma centre with a 98% survival rate, delivers one-third of all babies born in Denver, manages primary care clinics throughout the community, and runs school-based health centres serving 207 Denver public schools. The system also houses the Rocky Mountain Poison and Drug Safety centre.
Denver Health trains healthcare professionals through academic programmes whilst conducting clinical research. Its model integrates emergency and trauma care, obstetrics and maternal services, primary care, and specialised centres within a single system designed to ensure comprehensive access to healthcare across Denver and the wider Colorado region.
