Pizza Hut was founded in 1958 by two brothers in Wichita, Kansas, using $600 borrowed from their mother. The name came from a practical constraint: the sign they ordered had room for only eight letters. From that single restaurant, the company has grown into one of the world's largest pizza chains, with more than 16,000 locations across 100+ countries and approximately 350,000 team members.
The company operates across the pizza restaurant and quick-service restaurant (QSR) sectors, with a business model built on both dine-in locations and delivery. Pizza Hut introduced Stuffed Crust pizza and has expanded its delivery offering extensively - including a widely publicised claim of being the first pizza chain to deliver to space.
Core to Pizza Hut's stated operating philosophy is the role of hospitality alongside food quality. The company emphasises genuine service and a consistent customer experience across its global franchise and company-operated restaurant network.
