ORNL Federal Credit Union is a member-owned, not-for-profit financial cooperative founded in 1948. Operating under a philosophy of people helping people, its mission is to return earnings to members through higher savings rates, lower loan rates, and special dividends. Since 2018, the institution has paid these special dividends to its members. It is federally insured by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA).
The credit union provides a full range of financial services. Its products include deposit accounts, personal loans, mortgages, and VISA credit cards. It also offers investment and insurance services, alongside programs and resources for financial education. Its operational footprint covers 19 counties across East Tennessee, supported by a network of 28 branches and access to over 30,000 fee-free ATMs nationwide.
By scale, it ranks within the top 200 credit unions in the United States. Beyond its core services, the organization commits over $1 million yearly to community programs. It serves members in Anderson, Blount, Campbell, Claiborne, Cocke, Grainger, Hamblen, Jefferson, Knox, Loudon, McMinn, Meigs, Monroe, Morgan, Rhea, Roane, Scott, Sevier, and Union counties.
