Neighborhood House is a social services organization that has operated in the Portland metropolitan area since 1898. It was founded by women from Portland's Jewish community with the aim of caring for neighbors and building a stronger community. The organisation sustains its operations through community donations, grants, and partnerships, and recently established a permanent home on Barbur Boulevard.
The organisation runs a range of programmes serving individuals and families across all stages of life. These include the Free Food Market, a food security initiative; Head Start programmes for early childhood education; Senior Services encompassing transportation and social activities; Housing Support for those in need of housing assistance; and Parenting Resources providing support for parents.
Neighborhood House's staff speak 12 languages, reflecting the diversity of the community it serves. Its stated mission centres on bringing neighbours together and ending poverty, injustice, and social isolation.
