Waséyabek Development Company, established in 2011, is the investment and development arm of the Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi, a federally recognized Native American tribe. Based in Grand Rapids, Michigan, the company acquires and manages established, revenue-producing businesses across defence contracting, industrial manufacturing, commercial real estate, environmental engineering, and transportation services.
The company operates under the strategic oversight of a six-member Board of Directors and a skilled Executive Team. Its defence contracting activities are conducted through 8(a) certified federal services companies, positioning it within the federal procurement landscape. This portfolio approach allows Waséyabek to generate sustainable returns while diversifying the tribal economy.
Beyond financial returns, Waséyabek's mission encompasses creating meaningful employment, generating profits that support government initiatives, and contributing resources to enhance quality of life on the NHBP reservation. The company's operations are guided by the Seven Grandfather Teachings - Wisdom, Love, Respect, Bravery, Honesty, Humility, and Truth - and emphasize building legacy businesses that balance economic growth with the tribe's heritage and long-term stability.
