Scout Motors is an American automotive manufacturer reviving the Scout brand as an independent subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group. Founded in 2022, the company designs and produces electric trucks and rugged sport utility vehicles engineered for off-road capability, combining body-on-frame construction with modern powertrain technology.
The company's first production models, the Traveler SUV and Terra pickup truck, were unveiled in October 2024. Both vehicles feature body-on-frame architecture, off-road capability, and optional hybrid powertrains offering up to 500 miles of range. Production is scheduled to begin in 2027 at a $2 billion manufacturing facility in Blythewood, South Carolina, with planned annual capacity of 200,000 vehicles and an estimated 4,000 jobs created.
Scout Motors operates a direct-to-consumer sales model serving customers across the United States and Canada. The company maintains offices in Michigan, South Carolina, Virginia, California, and North Carolina, leveraging Volkswagen Group resources whilst operating as an independent entity focused on American engineering and manufacturing.
