Mitacs is a Canadian not-for-profit organisation founded in 1999 with a mandate to connect businesses, post-secondary institutions, and government through research partnerships and talent development. Operating nationally across Canada and engaging international partners, it works to translate academic research into applied outcomes and strengthen the country's broader innovation ecosystem.
The organisation runs several flagship programs. Accelerate places graduate students and postdoctoral fellows with industry partners on collaborative research projects, providing both funding and structured mentorship. The Globalink Research Internship brings international students to Canadian universities for research placements, building cross-border academic ties. Mitacs also delivers professional skills training for researchers and post-secondary talent, focused on preparing them for careers in industry and beyond. Since its founding, Mitacs has facilitated over 13,270 completed projects.
Its work spans a range of technical domains, including artificial intelligence, life sciences, quantum computing, and advanced manufacturing. By bridging academia, industry, and government, Mitacs funds and coordinates partnerships intended to develop skilled talent and support economic growth across Canada.
