Medirion is a German HealthTech startup developing sensor-based technology and artificial intelligence to detect rheumatoid arthritis in its early stages. The company uses non-invasive hand temperature measurement combined with deep learning to identify inflammatory patterns associated with rheumatic disease, aiming to provide diagnosis within two weeks of initial contact. This addresses a significant clinical gap: referrals to rheumatologists in Germany typically take six to nine months, whereas research demonstrates that patients receiving early treatment are seven times more likely to achieve remission.
Beyond detection, Medirion offers digitally supported therapy services for patients already diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. The company builds all prototypes and develops all software in-house, enabling rapid testing and validation of its technology. This vertical integration approach allows for continuous refinement of both diagnostic and therapeutic capabilities.
Medirion operates from Duisburg, Germany, and has received recognition from several startup programmes and competitions, including the Science4Life Idea Phase Award, HIGH-TECH.NRW Batch #8, and the RuhrPitch competition. The company addresses a substantial market opportunity: approximately 25,000 new rheumatoid arthritis diagnoses occur annually in Germany alone, yet only about 10% of all RA patients currently achieve remission.
