Lewis Energy Group is a privately-owned upstream natural gas producer focused on South Texas, where it operates more than 1,800 natural gas wells producing over a billion cubic feet of gas per day. The company, founded in 1983, has concentrated its efforts on the Eagle Ford play and surrounding regions in Webb and La Salle counties, where it remains headquartered and has built its core operations over four decades.
The company's technical expertise spans hydrocarbon exploration, well drilling and completion, field operations, and production management. Lewis Energy discovered the Eagle Ford play opportunity early, drilling its first Eagle Ford-targeted well in 2002 and subsequently building a substantial position in the region. This operational foundation extends to Mexico, where Lewis Energy Mexico operates under a Public Works Contract with PEMEX covering nearly 100,000 acres. The Mexican subsidiary drilled the first Eagle Ford well in the country in 2010 and has since discovered two new Eagle Ford fields there.
Lewis Energy Group was established by Rodney 'Rod' Lewis, who began his career as a gauger in 1978 before acquiring his first well with a $13,000 loan and building the operation from that foundation. The company remains family-led and privately held.
