Founded in 1968, the International Baccalaureate (IB) is a global nonprofit organisation headquartered across four cities: Cardiff, The Hague, Singapore, and Washington DC. It develops and administers educational programmes for students aged 3 to 19, used by more than 6,000 schools in 162 countries.
The IB offers four distinct programmes: the Primary Years Programme, the Middle Years Programme, the Diploma Programme, and the Career-related Programme. These are designed to develop critical thinking, cross-cultural understanding, and a sense of ownership over learning among young people.
The organisation's stated mission centres on creating a better, more peaceful world through education. Its pedagogical approach focuses on the whole student, aiming to produce curious, knowledgeable, and caring individuals equipped to tackle complex problems.
