Banner Health is a fully integrated nonprofit health system founded in 1999. Headquartered in Phoenix, Arizona, the organization operates across six western states: Arizona, California, Colorado, Nebraska, Nevada, and Wyoming. It is Arizona's largest private employer, with nearly 60,000 team members, and contributes an estimated $12 billion in annual economic impact.
The system's core operations span 33 hospitals and more than 400 outpatient sites. It also provides health insurance, serving over 1 million members. Through its Banner – University Medicine division, the organization operates three academic medical centers, training over 1,300 residents and fellows annually and conducting more than 800 active clinical trials. Specialized facilities include the Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center, Banner Alzheimer's Institute, and Banner Children's.
As a nonprofit, Banner Health reinvests earned dollars into its communities rather than distributing them to shareholders. In 2025, this community benefit reinvestment totaled $1.1 billion, funding charity care, support for rural hospitals, Medicaid services, and community health programs.
