Ambiq Micro, Inc. is a semiconductor company founded in 2010 as a University of Michigan startup. It designs and ships ultra-low-power microcontrollers and System-on-Chip (SoC) solutions aimed at battery-powered intelligent devices across the wearables, IoT, consumer electronics, and edge AI markets. The company has shipped over 280 million devices worldwide and has won the IoT Semiconductor Company of the Year award three times.
Ambiq's core technology is its Subthreshold Power Optimized Technology (SPOT) platform, which enables microcontrollers to operate at roughly one-tenth the power consumption of competing solutions. The platform originated with Real Time Clock (RTC) products before expanding into a broader family of microcontrollers and SoCs capable of running sophisticated AI workloads on battery power.
The company holds a significant position in the wearables segment: its processors power 9 of the top 10 global fitness bands and smartwatches. Beyond wearables, Ambiq's SoC solutions are designed to bring on-device AI capability to a wide range of battery-constrained IoT and embedded edge devices.
